How to make an herbal infusion to drink all day

DAILY RITUAL

Herbal infusions are a time-honored tradition in many cultures. By replacing your daily intake of water with herbal infusions, you will not only feel hydrated, but also nourished and grounded.

After reading this article, I invite you to prepare a cup of tea or infusion and sit listening to this 10 minute guided meditation. A great way to calm your mind, connect with your senses and start a deep relationship with medicinal herbs.

An herbal blend and mason jar to make an infusion to drink all day.

An herbal blend, a 64-ounce mason jar and a strainer is all you need to start your journey to healthy hydration.

I have a routine now where I start infusions at night in a big 64-ounce mason jar. They steep overnight and they are the water I drink all day long to stay hydrated and nourished.

For this article, I used my Summer Blend since those are the herbs I’m drinking daily this summer season, but of course you can use whatever herbs you want. The Summer Blend is aimed to help you feel energized and hydrated for the longer days of summer, while supporting your body in maintaining balance and calm. If you want to give it a try, you can purchase a bag here.

If you enjoy watching videos better than reading articles, here’s the same info for you:

Why do I love this method?

  1. 64 ounces (8 glasses) is about the amount of water your body needs to stay hydrated during the day. Replacing just water with an infusion allows you to reap the benefits of both hydration and the healing properties of herbs.

  2. And overnight infusion allows enought time for herbs to release all their nourishing goodness and for the water to reach room temperature –– the ideal temperature for drinking. In the winter, I sometimes like to drink warm infusions because they help raise my body temperature. In the summer though, I don’t advice adding ice to your infusions because ice lowers your internal body temperature (which is naturally warm), and it reduces your digestive system’s ability to absorb nutrients, while making your body work harder to raise the temperature of the drink you ingested.

How I make my infusions

First, you’ll need a few things to get started:

  • 64-ounce mason jar and lid

  • strainer

  • whatever herb or herbal blend you want to use

  • hot water

Steeping medicinal herbs in hot water.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat up 64 ounces of water in a kettle or on a pot

  2. Add 2 Tbsp of dry herbs to your mason jar. For fresh herbs, plan to fill a quarter or a third of the jar with them.

  3. Add the hot water and cover with the lid immediately

  4. Let steep overnight

  5. In the morning, strain the liquid and drink throughout the day to stay hydrated and nourished

That’s it! If you like this method, work on creating a routine where you steep your herbs in the evening, perhaps after cleaning up dinner, so you have them ready every morning.

I’d love to hear what you think and if you notice a difference in how you feel emotionally and physically, how your skin looks, and how hydrated you feel during the day after trying this method for a few days.
